After Care Instructions
Protect your investment with these simple, effective care practices.
1. The Curing Period
For the first 5-7 days after installation, avoid washing your vehicle. The film requires time to fully bond to the paint surface. During this window, avoid high-pressure water spray, automatic car washes, or leaving the car in extreme, direct sunlight for extended periods.
2. Washing Your Vehicle
- Hand Wash Recommended: The safest way to clean a vehicle with PPF is a hand wash using a pH-neutral automotive shampoo and a high-quality microfiber wash mitt.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or degreasers on the film, as these can degrade the protective topcoat.
- Pressure Washer Precautions: If using a pressure washer, maintain a distance of at least 12–18 inches from the surface. Never aim the nozzle directly at the edges of the film, as high-pressure water can lift the edges.
3. Dealing with Contaminants
Remove bird droppings, tree sap, or bug splatters as soon as possible. Because these contaminants can be acidic, leaving them on the film in the sun can cause permanent staining or etching over time. A quick rinse or a gentle wipe with a detail spray will keep the surface clear.
4. Self-Healing Properties
The film is designed to heal minor surface scratches and swirl marks. When exposed to heat from the sun or warm water, the film’s topcoat will naturally expand to smooth out light imperfections. If you notice persistent marks, gently pouring warm water over the area is often all it takes to trigger the self-healing process.

To ensure the longevity and performance of your coating, follow these maintenance essentials.
1. Cure Time While your vehicle is protected the moment the coating is applied, the chemical structure takes about 7 days to fully cure and harden. During these first 7 days, avoid washing the vehicle or exposing it to harsh chemicals. If the car gets rained on, try to dry it with a clean, high-quality microfiber towel to prevent water spotting.
2. The “Two-Bucket” Wash Method To keep your gloss high and prevent swirl marks, hand washing is key:
- Two-Bucket Method: Use one bucket with soapy water and a second bucket with clean water for rinsing your mitt. This prevents dirt from being rubbed back onto the paint.
- pH-Neutral Shampoo: Always use a pH-neutral automotive shampoo. Avoid high-alkaline or acidic detergents, as these can prematurely degrade the coating’s hydrophobic properties.
- Avoid Automatic Car Washes: Skip the tunnel washes with rotating brushes; they can cause surface marring that dulls the coating’s finish over time.
3. Water Spotting Ceramic coatings are hydrophobic, which means water beads up and rolls off. However, if water is left to sit and evaporate on the surface, the minerals within that water can leave spots behind. If you live in an area with hard water, try to wash your car in the shade and dry it thoroughly with a clean, plush microfiber towel.
4. Maintenance Boosters To keep that maximum shine and maximum water beading:
- Use a ceramic-specific detail spray or “booster” every few washes. These products are designed to replenish the slickness of the coating and offer an extra layer of protection against environmental contamination.
* A ceramic coating makes maintenance significantly easier, but it isn’t ‘self-cleaning.’ Consistent, proper washing is the best way to ensure you continue to get that mirror-like finish and effortless dirt-repellency for years to come. If you have questions about product recommendations, feel free to ask!
As a sacrificial layer designed to take the impact of the road, your film requires specific care to maximize its lifespan and clarity.
1. The Curing Period After installation, avoid spraying or cleaning the windshield for at least 48 hours. This allows the film to fully adhere and the moisture used during application to dissipate completely.
2. Wiping & Cleaning
- Use Microfiber Only: Always use a clean, soft microfiber towel to wipe the windshield. Avoid paper towels, which can cause micro-scratches on the film’s surface.
- Cleaning Solutions: Stick to water or automotive glass cleaners that are ammonia-free. Ammonia can break down the film’s topcoat and cause it to cloud over time.
3. Windshield Wipers
- Keep Wipers Clean: Grit and debris trapped under your wiper blades are the primary cause of premature scratching on protection film. Periodically wipe your wiper blades clean with a damp microfiber towel to remove embedded road grime.
- Replace Worn Blades: Ensure your wiper blades are in good condition. Worn, cracked, or dry-rotted rubber can damage the film faster than the road debris itself.
4. Managing Road Debris & Winter Salts In Utah, road salt and cinder can be abrasive. If your windshield is heavily coated in salt or grime, rinse it thoroughly with water before engaging your wipers. This prevents you from dragging abrasive particles across the film surface.
5. Expecting “Normal” Wear Because this film is a sacrificial barrier meant to protect your factory glass, it will eventually show signs of “wear and tear”—this is a sign the film is doing its job. Over time, heavy impacts from larger debris may leave marks on the film. While this is expected, keeping the film clean will significantly extend its clarity and performance.
* Windshield film is the ultimate insurance policy against the hazards of our local highways. By keeping the surface clean and your wiper blades in good shape, you’ll get the most out of your installation. If you ever have concerns about the visibility or condition of your film, just let us know
